I decided to turn to a professional service for writing my cover letter and resume when I had prepared a resume on my own, and six years later, found myself unhappy in my professional life. I had reached a point where there wasn’t any further professional growth; and even though I was earning a decent salary and in a position of authority, Hotel General Manager, I wasn’t receiving any of the necessary benefits that one comes to depend on their employment for. I pulled out the resume and cover letter I had used to obtain my current position back in 1999, and read through it. I knew once reading that it definitely needed updated, reworked, and was lacking the “oomph” that I was striving for.
I knew having been a Hotel General Manager for six plus years that I had acquired many different skills and qualifications. I realized that I was extremely marketable and valuable, but wondered how to put it on paper to really create the “Wow ‘em” effect. I first read other resumes and bought a resume workbook from the bookstore. I still knew that what I had prepared wasn’t displaying my professionalism or painting the big picture that I wanted prospective employers to envision. I was sending my resume out, but not receiving calls or inquiries for interviews.
I decided to contact my college roommate, Brandy Woodley, for direction as I recalled she had went into Human Resources, and I always knew Brandy was very intellectual and professional. Come to find out, she was starting her own business in resume writing and numerous other professional services, “Soaring Dove Enterprises.” She took a couple of days with the resume and cover letter that I had at the time and returned to me after a short discussion of details, a resume that I was undoubtedly and completely impressed with. I now have a resume and cover letter that I am extremely proud of. I cannot wait to send it to peers, colleagues, and prospective employers. I am now confident that, if my qualifications fit those of the company and/or position, I will land an interview.
